SNP Markers

Single Nucleotide Polymorphism Markers (SNPs)

SNPs are exchanges of individual bases at the DNA level. They are the smallest observable unit of DNA polymorphism. Since they occur throughout the genome they represent the most frequent type of polymorphism and thus are available in large numbers for almost any organism. SNPs can be identified through a variety of technologies. TraitGenetics primarily relies on comparative Sanger sequencing of a testpanel of individuals on a 96 well ABI 3730xl capillary sequencer. This approach represents the gold standard in SNP discovery.
